The Stanford Public Interest Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating
new and innovative opportunities for law students and legal professionals to engage in
critically needed public interest work. Through a variety of fundraising efforts, SPILF provides
financial support to law students, alumni, and public interest organizations
dedicated to bringing legal services to those groups that would otherwise lack access
to adequate legal representation. SPILF believes each Stanford student and alum can and
should contribute to the public interest, through pro bono and public interest work,
and provides students an organization in which students develop and maintain their
commitment to public interest.

Since its inception in 1993, SPILF's Annual "Bid for Justice" Auction has been an important part of its fundraising activities and a valued event for the law school community. Organized entirely by students, the Auction offers an exciting evening of competitive bidding. The affair includes a silent auction and a live auction emceed by Stanford law professors.

SPILF members solicit auction donations and monetary contributions from various local and national businesses and from Stanford Law School faculty, staff, and students. These contributors' generosity enabled SPILF to raise more than $80,000 at the 2007 Auction. The SLS community hopes to improve upon that milestone achievement at this year's Auction.
